PA Senate Bill 391 – Expunging my record older than 25 years!

I was arrested buying from another person outside a store. I paid $15.00 and then later I was stopped by security outside another store with suspicious as possible theft which was never proved.

They called the police which arrested me without charge for 5 days and then released with charge about $150.xx or so from my deposit cash.

Now I’m retired for the last 16 years and want to have the record expunged which are more than 25 years old make me not happy and worry.

Do not know what to do as I’m not able to afford paid for any service and are peaceful citizen with such very bad in own minds record from past still listed there in the public Records.

I believe such endless Bad record should some how was auto erase after sorthen years since say like 20 or more..

Pennsylvania Senate Bill 391 are long overdue and will serve the best for myself as old 78 years old Retail person.

Bill 391

This bill would be great to help people who have committed non-violent crimes, and have kept their nose clean for a lengthy time period. It would help people have a chance in a job market where even the slightest criminal record can restrict you from gaining employment. Those who get criminal records in early adulthood are often unable to rise economically and socially as they embark on their journey called life. I support this bill under the condition that eligible offenses be non-violent and non-sexual.

A Concerned Citizen

I think this bill is long overdue! The bill should also cover felony offenses if of a non violent nature on a case by case basis. These individuals are being locked out on their ability to live productive lives.

Expunging my record

I was driving my late husbands car, I had a passneger in it, we got stoped they search the car and found coke cannie,I was arrested and charged with possession, I did a years probation and paid a fine this was in 2006, I was working in apersonal care home and was let go due to the fact that I had this record and some summary offenses which I am paying a fine on. they were for helping a girl that her boyfriend was beating her up, I gave him a ride away from her, because she had three children and couldn’t leave the house. I am unable to obtain a job because of this, I am an excellant employee and loved my job I now have to try and have this taken care of so I can go back to work, since I don’t have a job I am homeless, staying with differnet people and collecting food stamps to eat. These laws should be changed and there wouldn’t be so much crime and drug dealing going on, most people deal drugs due to the fact of there record and they have to support their family or make a living for themself.

Felonies Low-Level Nonviolent

What about low level felonies convictions over 20 years old. It should be up to the courts where the individual/s were arrested to decide if the individual became a role model citizen and if they remained arrest free. The courts should review what the individual/s has done since his or her arrest and if they became a productive member of their community. LET THE COURTS DECIDE EXPUNGMENT BY ALLOWING THE INDIVIDUAL/S TO MAKE THEIR CASE FOR EXPUNGMENT AFTER ALL IT ALL STARTED WITH THE COURT SYSTEM LET IT END THERE.

A Lifesaver

This bill would be a lifesaver for many people who have made mistakes. I made mistakes 14 years ago and have truely changed my life I am now a good person with a criminal record that continues to hurt my life and my 3 young kids. The current situation for people like me who have truly changed does not protect the public but only prevents me from going further and doing more good in life by having my criminal record public for all to see. this should really include felonies as these are mistakes that people make and after 14 year of proving one has changed, they have and in a lot of cases these hard times in ones life has refined them to be a better person than one who has not been refined by hard times. Misdemeanors do not greatly affect ones life after a couple years, but a felony will reduce ones quality of life forever. please help us.

This bill would be greatly appreciated

Giving anyone a second chance for a low offense is great it will give people the opportunity to gain control of their lives and have hope for the future. I run across so many good people who have had run ins with the law and can not find a job. This bill needs to be passed

Mother of a son who has a felony on his record

It’s been almost 7 years since my son has been charged with a simple assault. He beat up the guy who tried to rape his sister. Yet, he is the one charged and not that dirtbag. He is almost 25 and still lives with me since the only work that will hire him is fast food. You cannot make a living with minimum wage. A grown man working with teens is very demeaning.

Retail theft at age 18 haunts me, 10 years later

At the age of 18, while still in high school, I made a tactless and indiscriminate decision to shoplift an item at a retail store. As I look back on the circumstances surrounding my life at this time, I can see that my behavior was an externalization of my own pain and disillusion of the violence, poverty, abuse and brokenness surrounding me at that time. Since this occurred, I honorably served 6 years in the U.S. Army, am Veteran of Iraq, completed a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies at Penn State w/ a GPA 3.67, completed M.A. in Counseling w/ 3.9 GPA, and have volunteered more than 400 hours in my community; these experiences along with many others speak to the person I became 10 years later. My personal history (including this act of shoplifting) is what brought to me the profession of human services–I have a PASSION to help guide young adults through this same pivotal period in life. When I went to court as a teenager, I didn’t have a clue. I could have easily had this reduced to a summary charge which would be eligible for expungement. Now I am haunted by this stupid impulsive teenage act as I search for a job trying to serve others in need. There are thousands of other stories like mine. Let’s PASS THIS BILL.

The current law for expungement in PA needs to change

We all wonder why there more crimes nows days. But it is simple who trying to get a job at 70 years old or worried about getting something expunge of there record when there died. Really, what kind of B.S. is that? Think about it. People with a misdemeanor/s that are trying to get a job to support there familys or just to pay bills and keep a roof over there head have a truly deep disadvantage. If a hundred of people apply for a job and one of them that was most qualified for the job position but have a simple misdemeanor charge on his or her record HE WILL NOT get the job. To me and most people think the current law is terriable. There need to be a change for of PA and the rest of the United States of America.
