Legislators! Let’s Do Something NOW!!!

To everyone that posts on this and shares their experiences: It seems that your troubles are falling on deaf ears. WE ALL have to get together and push or Legislators harder to pass this bill NOW before their extensive summer break. This is what PA needs to put a little more kick to get our economy back up and running.
To our Legislators and Committee Members: Let’s go folks, let’s do this NOW. Jobs need to be filled, people need a second chance to fulfill opportunities. You can only benefit by increasing workforce and lowering unemployment under your term. LETS GO! PASS THE FINAL LEGISLATION NOW!

I think when every one is almost dead they’ll get it

I am not allowed to go to nursing school for a misdemeanor, I got locked up for a marijuana cigarette almost 10 years ago yes the cigarette not actual marijuana in a bag, they love unnecessary paper work and money wasting . Even though nursing schools in America do criminal background checks for child and elder abuse I was pulled out of class and told until I “clear this up” I would not be allowed to attend school. “American Law” does not allow a person to expunge a misdemeanor if it is not in the first degree or beyond, so I guess I’m stuck with this record and I’ll keep being denied an education. The powers that be wonder why we have such a high crime rate in certain areas, people just become frustrated and give up trying to do the “right thing”. If I can’t get an education that I’m willing to pay for and work where I want then what’s the point? You may say ‘why not go to school for something else?”, I would love to do this but when you live in a city where there is only service jobs and hospital jobs common sense says take the latter it pays more and has benefits. I am so frustrated, I was talked to very nasty and denied an education I can’t function like this you’d think the way these people behaved that I must be a mass murderer. How is it that felons, junkies, and my just fresh out of jail neighbor can get a job after murdering someone? Arsed Backwards much?

Mother of a son who has a felony on his record

It’s been almost 7 years since my son has been charged with a simple assault. He beat up the guy who tried to rape his sister. Yet, he is the one charged and not that dirtbag. He is almost 25 and still lives with me since the only work that will hire him is fast food. You cannot make a living with minimum wage. A grown man working with teens is very demeaning.

Retail theft at age 18 haunts me, 10 years later

At the age of 18, while still in high school, I made a tactless and indiscriminate decision to shoplift an item at a retail store. As I look back on the circumstances surrounding my life at this time, I can see that my behavior was an externalization of my own pain and disillusion of the violence, poverty, abuse and brokenness surrounding me at that time. Since this occurred, I honorably served 6 years in the U.S. Army, am Veteran of Iraq, completed a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies at Penn State w/ a GPA 3.67, completed M.A. in Counseling w/ 3.9 GPA, and have volunteered more than 400 hours in my community; these experiences along with many others speak to the person I became 10 years later. My personal history (including this act of shoplifting) is what brought to me the profession of human services–I have a PASSION to help guide young adults through this same pivotal period in life. When I went to court as a teenager, I didn’t have a clue. I could have easily had this reduced to a summary charge which would be eligible for expungement. Now I am haunted by this stupid impulsive teenage act as I search for a job trying to serve others in need. There are thousands of other stories like mine. Let’s PASS THIS BILL.

The current law for expungement in PA needs to change

We all wonder why there more crimes nows days. But it is simple who trying to get a job at 70 years old or worried about getting something expunge of there record when there died. Really, what kind of B.S. is that? Think about it. People with a misdemeanor/s that are trying to get a job to support there familys or just to pay bills and keep a roof over there head have a truly deep disadvantage. If a hundred of people apply for a job and one of them that was most qualified for the job position but have a simple misdemeanor charge on his or her record HE WILL NOT get the job. To me and most people think the current law is terriable. There need to be a change for of PA and the rest of the United States of America.

Pray For The Best

I hope bill 391 passes ……..I was convicted of a misdemeanor, when i was 19, i made a bigg mistake, being young and thought i was going to get ARD. Somehow that didnt happen . Its been been 13 years and i have a daughter to take care of and jobs do back ground checks wont hire me . I was only on probation for 15 months.  Well i guess if dont changed will all suffer in the long run………..so pray for the best

Finally a second chance?

It’s about time! Imagine my dismay when I found out a stupid mistake made at the age of 21 will follow me until I’m 70!! This bill would give many people a second chance to start over. The benefits FAR outweigh the risks. Many studies have concluded that once a time period of FOUR years has elapsed, the chances of being arrested again are the same as a person who has never been arrested.
As someone about to request licensing from the state of PA with a misdemeanor from 13 years ago, this would be a God-send. I’d like a chance to support my family and move on? How long do we brand someone a “criminal”?? Do people not change? Can we at least be afforded the opportunity to show that we have changed? Please, pass this bill and gieve me and

Need This Done

i got in trouble ten years ago when i was 18 because two friends of mine were homeless and get desperate a broke into a parked unattended vending truck and stole food they then brought the food to my house the next day didn’t tell me were it came from and then got caught with the food and because they brought the food to my house i got a 3rd degree misdemeanor and a 2000 dollar fine witch i payed and i have been paying for it ever since i have not got in trouble for over ten years and believe i deserve a second chance to have a good life and good job

Gives a second chance

I am for the sb 391 bill. I want to have my life back and my past mistakes keep puting up a road block. It is very discouraging, I have paid the price yet still am being punished. Please pass the bill so I can move on in my life and make a better life for my daughter.
